About Zuoying
Zuoying is where Kaohsiung was born. Long before the harbour cranes, this was a walled Qing-dynasty town guarded by four gates — two of which are still standing, and one you can walk on.
Today it is a neighbourhood of contrasts: the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas that every guidebook photographs sit ten minutes away from morning markets where nobody speaks English and everybody wants to feed you. We walk you through both.
