About Cijin Island
Cijin is a sandbar island that has guarded the mouth of Kaohsiung harbour for three centuries. You get there on a ferry that costs less than a coffee, with scooters parked beside you on the deck.
It is the oldest settlement in the city: a Qing fort on the hill, a British-built lighthouse, a temple standing since 1673, a black-sand beach, and a street of seafood stalls where you point at what you want. We time this tour so it ends with the sunset over the Taiwan Strait.
